Around 300 cyclists from different families and professional backgrounds faced the chilly winter morning today to participate in a cycle rally. The cycle rally was organized to create awareness among the people for fitness and motivate them to stay active in the winters. The cyclothon started from Ekamra Plaza near Sishu Bhawan and concluded at Shikharchandi Hills. The 12.1 km long cycle rally event was organized by the Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).

The cyclothon rally was a part of the Fit India campaign launched by the central government, intended at spreading awareness among city people about the fitness activity and how to remain fit by cycling. The event created a lot of excitement among participants and the general public.

The event was waved off by the first Odia Arjun Award winner and eight-time national cycling champion, Minati Mohapatra along with BMC commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhury.“Cycling is an amazing way to stay fit. If we stay fit, we can keep COVID-19 at bay. Viewing the huge participation here gives me immense pleasure. The cycling culture must develop, as it would help all of us stay fit,” said Mohapatra.

The officials said that they have been striving to continue the trend of cycling going among the youth and fitness enthusiasts by organizing Cyclothons at regular periods and probably will plan to do it every Friday.
