The world’s largest sports mall having an area equivalent to 12 football field under a three-storey building is going to open near Dubai’s Deira City Centre in Q1 of 2020.

The Developer of the mega-project, Viva City said its sports society will “be an important destination” for the annual Dubai Fitness Challenged which is envisioned by the crown prince of Dubai and Chairman of the executive council HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

In a bid to make the city, the most active city in the world, Dubai Fitness Challenge encourages daily commuters and visitors to the city to devote 30 minutes to exercises for 30 days.

Dedicated parking spots will be developed within the mall, according to head of design at Viva City, Edgar Bove. A project profile shared by Viva City states that the company “wanted to create much more than a mall”, of which “Dubai has enough”.

The profile continued: “Raw materials normally hidden in a traditional mall concept – concrete, steel, [and] exposed wood – play a vital role in transporting visitors to a place that they recognize: a natural, urban playground.

“Nothing is concealed. From the mechanics of the elevators whose inner workings are completely exposed, to polished concrete floors and visible mechanical structures and services, visitors see behind the scenes [and the] façade.”

Viva City said “one of the largest bowling centres in the UAE” will be developed within the “carefully curated” Sport Society, which will also feature a gym, cricket simulators, climbing walls, a full-size National Hockey League (NHL) ice rink, and gymnastics and soft play area.

Sport Society’s second and third levels will include retail outlets by international sports brands, and spaces for various sporting activities, in addition to food and beverage outlets focused on organic and healthy diets. A multi-purpose arena with stadium seating is also planned for the project.

Remarking on the mall, Bove said: “The project will present big surprises both in design and activities, and will deliver a unique experience combining shopping, entertainment, and sports.

“The mall will have a screen that will be one of the largest LED display panels. Visitors can watch international sports performances and tournaments indoor and outdoor.”
