The 2022 Fifa world cup venue, Al Wakra stadium is all set to inaugurate on 19th May. Qatar Football Association and Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy announced the news on Sunday.

The first match which will be played there is Amir Cup 2019 on 16th May. After the iconic Khalifa International Stadium, Al Wakra is the second to be readied for the Fifa World Cup 2022.

The inauguration ceremony is scheduled to take place before the final match of Amir Cup on 16th May.

The stadium project manager for SC, Thani Khalifa Al Zarraa said yesterday, “The launch of this stadium is a significant step on the road to 2022. Its innovative and futuristic design means it is set to be one of the iconic venues during the first Fifa World Cup in the Arab World. We hope thousands of football fans across the country will join us for the landmark occasion as we celebrate that we have made to-date and look forwad to 2022 with renewed excitement.”

Al Wakra Stadium will be home to Al Wakra Sports Club, its capacity will be reduced to 20,000. Excess seats will be donated to football development projects overseas.
