‘Khelo India’ an app developed by Sports Authority of India is assisting in achieving fitness scores among school-going kids. The app provides an array of sports tests and helps them choose a sport compatible with the students.
News agency, Press Trust of India reports more details about the Khelo India app. It can be used to take tests like body mass index for fitness assessment, Plate Tapping test to assess co-ordination, sit and reach test to measure flexibility, 600 MT run/walk to measure stamina, 50 meter dash Standing Start to assess speed, Partial Curl Ups to measure abdominal muscular strength and endurance, Plate Tapping test to assess hand-eye co-ordination, Flamingo Balance test to assess balance and push up to measure endurance.
1000 school and 70,000 students have already accessed the Khelo India app to measure their fitness and scores have been fed into the app. The app will find the students with the best scores who have the potential to become professional sportspersons.
Meeta Bhandual, the principal of Jaypee High School commented on the app, “It is the first time that CBSE has taken up structured and scientifically-designed program in sport. I, as a principal, can see the performance of my students, whether it is a class-wise performances of one group of students with another.
Parents can go back to check the score of their wards whenever they want. It is an excellent initiative by Sports Authority of India, and I am sure it can help identifying in future Olympians from a really young age.”
