The Health Department published Standard Operating Protocols (SOPs) to be followed by customers and owners as the Maharashtra government declared advice to open gyms.

As per the SOPs, while it is necessary to use a mask at all times inside the gym, the Maharashtra government has approved the use of cloth, and tightly woven masks as use of N-95 masks can obstruct breathing.

No group exercises and amenities like steam, sauna and shower will be allowed. Accessibility of locker rooms can be permitted, given there is enough space for people to move nearby, in compliance with social distancing measures.

People above 65 years and below 10 years, and pregnant women will not be permitted. Gym owners have been asked to plan gym areas as per four sq metre per person. Also, the distance between gym equipment should be at least six feet, but if there are exercises that raise the breathing rate, the distance.

Separate entry and exit routes must be marked too, and AC should be fixed between 24-30 degrees, and humidity at 40-70%. Also, the use of common mats should be avoided during the workout, and recorded songs should be played during the workout, but laughing yoga exercises should be avoided.
