Sports minister of Punjab, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi  stated on Sunday that 167 sports wings have been installed in schools across 22 districts. The move aims to provide for the students studying in residential or day scholar schools.

The minister said the state government of Punjab has given the sanction to admit 2,830 students under these wings for academic session of 2019-20. He added that special attention would be given on providing nutritious and quality to the enrolled students.

To serve this purpose, state government has already dedicated a committee. The committee is comprised of concerned district sports officer, principal or in-charge of concerned school or sports wing and coach of the particular game, besides two-senior most players. Sodhi has directed that the bills regarding the diet should be sent to the head office by the concerned district sports officer by the 10th of every month.

The sports minister of Punjab also has given order to the officials of the sports department to conduct checks at regular intervals at the sports wings to ensure their functionality. The purpose of this program is to spot budding talent in sports and provide training to them from an early age. He added that Punjab would soon be able to regain its glory in the sporting arena since the state government is committed to provide every facility to the budding players undergoing training in the sports wings in various schools.
