70,000 cyclists are gearing up to hit the streets and bike trails across America to support the fifth annual Great Cycle Challenge USA to fight kids’ cancer. The month-long event in June benefits Children’s Cancer Research Fund and cyclists of all ages and abilities can register at GreatCycleChallenge.com.
Great Cycle Challenge riders set personal mileage and fundraising goals for the month and ask their friends, family and colleagues to sponsor them to support their challenge. Participants can ride to work or on weekends, near home or while traveling, and bikes of all types can get involved. Riders can also create or join group rides in their communities.
Founded in 2015, GCC has quickly grown to become one of the biggest cycling events in the country. Over four years, 100,000 riders from all 50 states have ridden 9 million miles while raising $16 million to support childhood cancer research.
Mileage and fundraising are made easy through the Great Cycle Challenge app, or miles can be tracked with MapMyRide or Strava. Riders who register by April 19 will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a Specialized®bicycle retailed at $4,750.
“Great Cycle Challenge is a great way to support children battling cancer and give back to your community,” said John Hallberg, CEO of Children’s Cancer Research Fund. “We’re calling on all Americans to help kick cancer’s butt this June by getting on their bikes and rallying their friends and family.”
New for 2019: GCC Champions
This year, 100 cyclists have been selected as Great Cycle Challenge Champions, serving as ambassadors for the event. GCC Champions will host group rides in their area, helping bring together riders in their communities.
