The Miami Public Library has a unique program to support have the community fit. Health officials state people in Oklahoma, particularly Ottawa County, have strived with their fitness and activity in movement. Places have closed down, and what better method to discover new workout exercises than at your own home?
The Miami Public Library collaborated with Peaceful Warrior’s Martial Arts as part of their health Literacy Grant sponsored by the Oklahoma Department of Libraries and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
Callie Cortner, Assistant Library Director, said, “You have a more excellent kind of life when you have a better grasp on physical and mental health it enables everybody to improve themselves and better their lives.”
“This permits them to involve their bodies and their thoughts for physical fitness, and peaceful warriors are all about stimulating mind and body. So that was one of the things that got me to reach out to them particularly was because I know that they now have those conditions in place.”
The program will have multiple distinct alternatives to choose from.
“With peaceful warriors, we’re beginning with the tricking program which it kind of ties in martial arts with gymnastics and dance movements then we will be preparing adult fitness and then yoga and children fitness and they are all 6 videos long so we’ll expand them out throughout the weeks so 1 video per week.”
