In a first ever deal between a social media platform and a coveted international golf tournament, Chinese Social Media Platform WeChat has inked a deal with the World Golf Championship-HSBC Champions as an official partner for the latest edition of the tournament.
The professional golf tournament will tie up with the social media company, WeChat, making it the first ever social media platform for this $10 million prize professional golf tournament.
The deal will mark the social media’ venture into the sports event sponsorship domain.
As per the deal, social media platform will render all real time scorecards and allied tournament information to its users as well as all exclusive behind the scenes content.
AT present, WeChat sponsors Chinese golf stars including Dou Zecheng, Lin Xiyu and two time European tour winner Li Haotong.
In a bid to introduce its brand value to foreign customers, WeChat has sealed the deal earlier this year in April with the top ranking golf stars.
WeChat is a Chinese company that was launched in 2011, is a widely used social media platform having more than 1.06 billion active users across the world.
The WGC-HSBC champions being launched in 2005, has the highest prize money in the Eastern Asia.
