Many people struggle to regulate their weight. The obesity problem in our country is well known: out of 3 persons in India, every other 1 person is obese, and its rate is increasing. But you still might question what a healthy weight is, and how to get there and maintain it the right way.

Body Mass Index (BMI)

It’s easy to figure out the expected healthy weight by using a simple tool. It is called the body mass index (BMI).

The BMI calculator shows some measurements that depict your health.

Obesity in adults is described as having a BMI of 30.0 or above. The other ranges are:

  • Overweight = 25.0 to 29.9
  • Normal weight = 18.5 to 24.9
  • Underweight = under 18.5

What is BMI?

BMIBMI is a regular tool to give you some idea of your health, but it doesn’t measure body fat. It’s not expected to provide a diagnosis or inform you for sure that you have a weight problem.

For an example of how it can be off, people with right muscles might have a high BMI without being obese. And BMI calculator can help in fat management in older people and others who have missed muscle and want to stay fit and healthy life. If you believe you are obese or have problems regarding healthy weight, consult your doctor.

How Do I Get to the Right Weight?

BMIMany things help define a person’s weight that includes genes and hormones. But being obese comes typically from eating more calories than you burn. Your body operates on to extra calories and converts them into fat.

So there are two things you must turn to lose weight in a healthy and enduring way:

  1. Eat right. We all love fast food, sodas, and processed foods. Therefore they add up, and so you should limit them.
  2. Move more. Our lifestyles can be short on exercise, playing, exercising or just moving enough to burn the calories we take in. So start being more active and have a proper workout routine according to your comfort and capacity.
  3. Drink water. Drink an adequate amount of water regularly and keep yourself hydrated.
  4. Exercise. Plan out your exercising hours and do what comforts you according to your capacity—no need to be too harsh on yourself. You can do yoga and jogging if you want to stay away from heavyweights.
