The BCCI on Friday congratulated Ravindra Jadeja and Poonam Yadav, the Arjuna Awardees of this year and extolled their contributions to the game.

Poonam Yadav received the award on Thursday at Rashtrapati Bhawan from Ram Nath Kovind. Meanwhile, Jadeja couldn’t be present at the ceremony due to national duty in the ongoing away Test series against Test Series.

Vinod Rai, who is the head of three-member committee of Administrators running BCCI right now, said both the cricketers “have raised the bar with their on-field performances”

He added, “The award will further motivate them to do well and it will also inspire other young cricketers in the country to keep striving hard.”

Diana Edulji, former captain of Women’s cricket team called Poonam’s performance phenomenal for being the highest wicket-taker in the women’s t20 format last year.

She exclaimed, “Ponaam has been consistently doing well. She was phenomenal in 2018 and finished with 35 T20 wickets, the most by any cricketer in a calendar year.”

She also congratulated Ravindra Jadeja for his all-round show.

The third member of CoA, Ravindra Thodge conveyed his best wishes to the two players. He said, “I congratulate them for this sporting honor. Ravindra Jadeja is only the third Indian Cricketer to have 200 plus runs and 150 wickets in ODIs. Both the cricketers are among the top 10 in the global rankings and I wish to see them climb up the ladder once again.”

The BCCI had sent their nominations to the ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports earlier this year in April.
